Does your business have anyone making the big technology calls?

We are pleased to share that BlueCloud Digital has been featured in The South African. The article tackles a question we hear from founders all the time. Who in your business is actually qualified to make the big technology decisions?

Here is what it covered, and why it struck a chord.

What was the article about?

The point is a simple one. Senior technology leadership should not be a luxury reserved for big corporates.

Most small and mid-sized businesses cannot justify a full-time Chief Technology Officer. The salary, the share options and the benefits put it out of reach. A Fractional CTO closes that gap. You get the strategic thinking of a seasoned tech executive, plugged in when you need it, without carrying the full-time cost.

What is a Fractional CTO, really?

It is the difference between keeping the lights on and deciding which lights to build.

IT support fixes what is broken. A Fractional CTO sets the direction. That means sitting in on board meetings, turning technical risk into plain business language, challenging vendor sales pitches and making sure every pound spent on technology moves the business forward.

Our Fractional CTO service draws on deep experience across infrastructure, cybersecurity, digital transformation and vendor management. That is the heart of what we do. Modern IT support can feel very arms length. Being able to engage with clients regularly, and genuinely care about the outcome, is what sets good support apart. In a commoditised industry, service is the only real differentiator.

What did people say?

The response was generous, and it came from clients as well as our wider network.

The South African's own team thanked us for our contributions to their tech and AI strategy. SA People, who we support day to day, called our help invaluable in a fast-moving publishing world. Carey Goaté, who worked with our team in the past, shared fond memories and kind words about seeing the business grow.

Others reflected on the model itself. Reyhana Jano, an organisational psychologist, noted that SMEs often underestimate the value a Fractional CTO brings once they start to scale. Eric Churet pointed out that fractional experts are a strong way to access senior knowledge at a reduced cost. Rhys Jones called that added value the thing that helps good businesses stand apart.

Welcoming Brian Kimutai Koech to the BlueCloud Digital team

We are delighted to welcome Brian Kimutai Koech to join our growing helpdesk team as an IT Engineer. From our very first conversations, it was clear that Brian genuinely enjoys solving problems and helping people. That matters to us. Good IT support is as much about patience and communication as it is about technical skill.

A solid foundation

Brian studied Business Information Technology at Taita Taveta University, graduating in 2020. It is a degree that blends hands-on IT with a real understanding of how businesses actually work. He has built on that with certifications in PRINCE2 Agile, CISCO CCNA, and HCIA Cloud Computing, plus further training in hardware, networking, and cybersecurity. He is the kind of person who keeps learning, which is exactly what this field demands.

Experience that speaks for itself

Brian joins us with several years of practical experience supporting busy, multi-site organisations. Most notably, he worked with AVASO Technology Solutions, a global IT services provider with operations across the UK, the US and Europe. He has also supported enterprise IT and infrastructure at the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration, the ICT Authority, Villa Soft, and Hylo. Along the way he has become a safe pair of hands with everything from troubleshooting hardware and software to managing networks and supporting hybrid meeting rooms. He is just as comfortable helping someone in person as he is fixing an issue remotely. You can read more about his background on his LinkedIn profile.

What Brian will be doing

Brian will be at the heart of our helpdesk, making sure our teams and clients get fast, friendly, and reliable support. His days will span everything from resolving incidents and setting up devices to network administration, asset management, and looking after the cloud platforms our clients rely on. In short, he will help keep things running smoothly right across the EMEA region.
